Our founder
dr. a v joseph
MBBS, D Ortho, DUCM, FICA
Dr. A. V. Joseph was an Orthopaedic Surgeon born in the year 1946 at Upputhara in Idukki district of Kerala. His early education was from St. Philomena school Upputhara. He was the top scorer in B. Sc. Chemistry from Sacred Heart College Ernakulam. He then joined Medical College Kottayam in 1967. He was an all-round student leader there. He initiated several activities for the face lifting and beautification of college premises. Dr. Joseph also organized the youth wing of Junior Chamber in the college for helping patients in their needs. During his fourth year of MBBS, he focused on in-depth research on snake poisoning in Kerala, visited many snake parks, interacted with snake catchers, and examined snake bitten patients. He wrote an authentic book on snake poisoning and the book is prescribed as a study material by the Government of Kerala. A voracious reader, he shared the insights with his classmates and friends. He enjoyed helping others in solving their genuine problems.
After his MBBS, he served as medical officer in various private hospitals. He married Dr. Rosamma in 1974 and the couple worked together in Good Samaritan Hospital Pazhanganad. On invitation from Karuna hospital Nedumkandom, the doctors joined there in 1975. After serving Karuna hospital for two years, they opened Medical Trust Hospital in a rented building at Nedukandom, in 1977, to give more dedicated health services to the rural people. In 1980, they moved to their own hospital building in Kallar, near Nedumkandom. In the meantime, Dr. Joseph was appointed as Medical Officer in Government Hospital Santhanpara. After 9 years, he resigned from government service and together the doctor couple expanded the hospital by constructing new buildings and appointing specialist doctors in various departments.
Always on the pursuit of learning and upskilling, Dr. Joseph did his post graduation in Orthopedics from JJM Medical College, Davanagere, Karnataka in 1984. He went on to do advanced academic and technical studies in Ultra Sonography at the University of Zagreb in Yugoslavia in 1988. Dr. Joseph was a genius in the medical field. His observations and inferences of cases highly impressed even his professors. He always had solutions for every problem. He used to take any amount of pain to achieve the target that he had set for himself. He deserves the credit for the overall developments of Udumpanchola taluk and particularly for the changing face of Nedumkandom. He was actively engaged and involved in the functioning of Indian Medical Association, Lions & Rotary Clubs, Planter’s Associations and more. Many educational and social institutions enjoyed his patronage. He entered eternal rest on 21st December 2010, leaving the management of the hospital to his elder son Dr. Rojin George Joseph
